Andrejs Bike Ride, July, 2000

These are pictures that I took with my digital camera during my two-week vacation, mostly by bike, last July. I started from Hancock, Vermont. This is just east of the Green Mountains from Middlebury. I had intended to start in Middlebury; however, when Diana was about to let me off for the start of my ride, we saw signs proclaiming the road through the mountains to be closed. So, just so I'd be able to make my first day's destination, we found a circuitous way across the mountains by car and I started from just south of Hancock. This was also almost the only rain of my trip -- you can see the strong clouds in the first couple of pictures. When it actually rained a bit, I spent that hour sitting under the awning of a cafe. The rest was great cycling weather.

My first week was riding by myself from Vermont to Rangeley, Maine. There I hooked up with the MOOSA tour, a ride put on by the Can-Am Wheelers. That started from Rangeley and took four days of riding to get to Levis, the city across the St. Lawrence from Quebec City. There we camped and enjoyed a few days of exploring the area. On the last day of the camping, Diana arrived by car to meet me and we spent an additional two days tramping around the city and staying overnight with our wonderful Warm-Showers-List host, Roger Gravel.

The pictures are only in approximate order and don't particularly tell any story. Just some memories for me. Maybe some interesting views for others. I actually made some notes about my route, the nature of the terrain and road conditions. If anyone wants such info, you can get in touch with me.

I was riding my custom-built (by Glenn Swan, Ithaca, NY) light touring bike, pulling a BOB trailer. My gear was in a plastic bin I found at our local supermarket for 5$ and which is a perfect fit into the frame of the BOB.
